We hang onto beliefs that are instilled into us in early childhood and conditioned via our culture etc.

Are these beliefs set in stone as the absolute truth? Who knows what the absolute truth is!? Maybe the best judge is whether that belief is actually working for you and the other. Maybe it has worked well for you in the past, but things have changed, and re evaluation may be necessary.

Our conscious mind is where our choices come from, but it’s our subconscious mind that has greater influence on our behavior. Paul Blackburn gives the example of your mind saying I shouldn’t eat that chocolate cake, as your subconscious mind controls your legs walking to the fridge and your hand reaching out for the cake and shoving it into your mouth.

.

Given that our conscious mind is only ‘the tip of the ice burg’ compared to our subconscious mind (Sigmund Freud)……. which mind do you think is likely to be running our life?

.

Some beliefs that may not be working;

If my partner cared, he/she would do what I want.

I want everyone to like me.

Life is a struggle.

I need someone stronger than myself to depend on.

I have no choice.

I must not fail.

I must achieve to be worthwhile and accepted.

My partner should………………

These beliefs can be changed to be more realistic and therefore workable.

What could we change the above beliefs to?

For example;

Not everyone shows love the way I do.

I like people to like me, and I recognize that’s not likely.

Life is what you make of it.

I always have choice, at the very least, a choice of attitude.

Here’s 4 steps to influence your subconscious mind into a new ‘belief system’ — which ultimately reflects the life that you will see and experience in your ‘outer world’

STEP 1:

Decide on what desire or goal you want to visualize.

STEP 2:

Lay or sit down in a comfortable position.  You can have classical music playing, nature sounds or simply have it quiet.  Do whatever works for you to let go and completely relax – focusing on your breath usually works well.   Eg breath in for 4 counts, hold breath for 4, breath out for 6 counts, hold for 2.  Whatever works for you.

STEP 3:

Now visualize your goal.  Don’t view it from the third person.  Put yourself right there.  Use all of your senses.

Experience in vivid detail how this goal looks, feels, tastes, sounds and smells like.  The more specifics you can add, the stronger the effect.

You will know that you are doing it correctly when you start to feel excited.  This is caused because your subconscious mind honestly thinks that this event is happening!  It causes you to feel joy.

STEP 4:

Once you have visualized as many details about the goal as you have the time for, usually about fifteen minutes, you can start to come back to full awareness.

Take a deep breath, and repeat the breathing pattern you started with. Hold your breath once more, and this time as you exhale, say the following phrase out loud: “I am now fully awake, energized and refreshed.”

Perform the Power Visualization mind technique once daily, usually sometime in the middle of the day.  We all lead very busy lives and sometimes scheduling in this exercise takes some skill.

BE CREATIVE!  Because you can do this almost anywhere!
